Attachment and Its Social Determinants, Kenyan Child and Adolescent Perspective from Two Informal Settlements in Nairobi: A Qualitative Study

There has been a sustained interest in examining social determinants of health (SDH) for late childhood and adolescence to shift the focus from individual risk factors patterns, material conditions improve long-term outcomes. This study offers an opportunity look at number protective associated with SDH using children's narratives around their attachment relationships. The research was carried out Kariobangi Kangemi centers Nairobi County, Kenya. All 83 participants were recruited community assistance workers. Fifty-seven percent girls; 65.1% ages 12–14 34.9% 8–11 years. Child Attachment Interview (Target et al., 2003) used security as well adolescents’ understanding relational world. Inductive thematic analysis informed by preexisting themes identified literature on “risk” “protective” within different layers focused identifying children’s appraisals those factors. Secure both parents had 37.3% 33.7% insecure one parent, 28.9% parents. overarching included poverty, parenting, religion, schooling. Some commonly classified or described appraised children more complex multidimensional phenomenon. Apart it, these appeared interconnected interrelated each other levels SDH.
